A tour through the halls of this year’s  A+A quickly showed that manufacturers have undoubtedly recognized the sign of the times. The 1,600 visitors from 55 nations presented the entire spectrum of products and services for personal protection and healthy environment and provided solutions for trouble-free operations. A major trend – which might especially appeal to young users – is the coming together of fashion and function.

Even safety footwear with the highest protection category are now available in fashionable colors. Due to their light weight and comfort-oriented fit they are indistinguishable from trendy, recreational sneakers. The key for these brands is using thin, light and comfortable materials that also allow for easy processing and still meet the highest safety standards. We found a variety of styles utilizing PORON® Performance Cushioning to meet their demanding requirements.

Particularly when it comes to safety boots with metatarsal protection there have been real highlights: Various safety shoes with the new PORON® XRD® M-Guard were positively reviewed at the stands of Iron Steel, Arbesko and Terra Footwear.

PORON® XRD® M-Guards are thin, flexible and impact-absorbing foam inserts. They help to pass the EN ISO 20345 as well as the ASTM F 2413 standards for metatarsal impact protection. The XRD® M-Guards are incorporated directly into the tongue of the work boot and offer reliable protection against injuries to the mid-foot through downward-falling objects and collisions.

In short, thanks to the PORON® XRD® M-Guard, it is now possible to design safety shoes that provide maximum impact protection during work and can also be worn during leisure time.

 Jalas

Finnish manufacturer Ejendals presented a new generation of insoles with the Jalas FX2. Thanks to the PORON® XRD® inserts on the heel and forefoot, the insole provides excellent shock absorption.

The insoles also provide reliable protection against fast muscle fatigue, ideally suiting them for professions that are exposed to prolonged standing.

With the help of a special analyzer at the Ejendals stand, you could visualize the distribution of pressure on your feet. The results will help in the selection of the ideal insole with PORON® XRD®.

Overall, this year’s A+A showed numerous examples of designs developed specifically for individuals and wearable work clothes.  A key factor in future products will most likely be the inclusion of innovative materials such as XRD® Impact Protection that allow brands to design light weight, comfortable and fashionable clothing that still meet all safety standards.
