Electric-Powered Motorbikes and Vintage Designs Big Trends at Intermot

We just returned from the Intermot International Motorcycle, Scooter and Bicycle Fair, which took place October 3-7 in Cologne, Germany.  Over 1,106 exhibitors from 40 countries presented their latest models and products to nearly 200,000 visitors passionate about motorized and human powered two wheelers – and that includes me!

The biggest trend was the popularity of electric-powered scooters, bikes and even motorcycles.  Racing sport bikes and off-road motocross bikes are leaping on this trend and offering bikes with electric engines.  Many brands offer a ‘full package’ electric bike, or additional kits can be purchased to turn your motor bike into an electric one.

Vintage design is also another big trend seeing many brands offer classic/heritage designs reminiscent of motorbikes popular in the 40s, 50s and 60s.

As for helmets, which are of course near and dear to our hearts, we saw many innovative designs from brands across the globe.  Helmet manufacturers are seeking thin, flexible and comfortable impact protection to suit all kinds of riders ranging from daily commuters and leisure riders to racing and dirt-bike riders. While fit and customization of end use are important, so too are the various test standards for each helmet that need to be passed.

Overall it was a great show with high energy and we are excited about PORON® Cushioning’s growth in this market.
