Q: Can you give us a brief description about your background and how you came to work with the PORON® Cushioning Team?
Richie: After graduation from Chang Sha Railway University in 2000, I worked for one year as a shoe developer for the Nine West brand. I then joined Prime Asia as a Customer Service Team Leader from 2001 to 2005.
I was first introduced to the PORON brand name from my previous boss, Peter Gregory, who worked for over 30 years in the US footwear industry and maintained contact with Rogers and PORON Cushioning. This is the main reason why I was interested in PORON Cushioning and I was also attracted to Rogers’ enterprise and culture. When I decided to leave Prime Asia, I sent my resume to Rogers and was fortunate to be selected as a Sales Specialist by the end of 2005.
Q: What areas of expertise do you bring to customer meetings?
Richie: I bring many years of experience in working with developers and designers. It is my goal to clearly understand the customer’s real need and therefore I am able to properly introduce PORON Cushioning materials to help solve their design problems.
Additionally, my sense for the cost control can help customers to select suitable materials while keeping costs down.
I maintain an open mind and remain flexible in order to closely service a variety of new customers and their projects.
Q: Can you talk about a specific application or market which has sparked your interest?
Richie: Lately I have been learning more about design solutions for motorcycle helmets, back protectors and ballistic applications.
Q: What are the biggest trends or changes that you are seeing in the markets you serve?
Richie: High performance and lower weight are the major trends in the footwear industry that I have seen.
In the sports and protective equipment industry, maintaining comfort and function are the current ‘must have’s.’
Q: You will be one of the PORON® Team Members at the upcoming ISPO Beijing show. What are looking forward to most during this year’s ISPO?
Richie: I hoped to see an increase in designs and new opportunities from the local markets. Additionally, I look forward to meeting with the new Chinese PORON Team Members, conducting training sessions and helping to lead them in finding new opportunities.
Richie: We attend a variety of shows and conferences throughout the year. For example, we will also be exhibiting at the Asia Pacific Leather Fair (APLF), Jinjiang International Footwear and Wenzhou International Leather, Shoe and Materials trade shows. Furthermore, the PORON team also holds monthly team conferences and new product trainings.
Thanks again Richie for your time!
