“More Cushioning” is the reason most people purchase insoles
A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of attending the Hartford Marathon with our good friends at the Special Olympics, CT. What a great event…I heard there was anywhere from 13,000 to 16,000 runners who participated. The day started out cooler then normal for mid-October in Hartford but the runners in the marathon loved it…after their lungs adjusted over the first few miles of course.
The thing I enjoyed most about the race was all the other activities happening around the Marathon. There was a 1k family race, 5k fun run and a 1/2 marathon. There was also a Vendor Village full with SWAG for everyone and of course beer for those interested in taking part in past race festivities.
Leading up to and during the event, we hosted a sweepstakes on our social media pages and asked those who entered “Why do you choose to purchase aftermarket insoles”. Before I get to the results, let me explain what “aftermarket insoles” are first…it’s insoles you purchase separately from your shoes. We have all seen them in the checkout line in specialty shoe stores made by people such as New Balance. And now on to the results…
The big winner was “more cushioning” getting 39% of the votes. Coming in second was “custom arch support” getting 24% of the votes. I was not surprised to see these numbers but I was when I saw the number next to “special needs” for feet. Only 7% of people checked this box. When we set up the survey, I was assuming this number was going to be more like 25%. Shows you how much I know.
Thanks to all who participated in the survey as these numbers will continue to help us and our partners develop better products to meet your needs. Also, if you’re a runner or in the Hartford area next fall, be sure to check out the marathon. If you are running, be sure to check out the Special Olympics, CT web site…you can sign up to run for the organization and raise money along the way. Hope to see you next year.
