Off to the OIA Rendezvous

If you’re in the outdoor industry, you are very familiar with the OR trade show.  This show takes place twice a year in Salt Lake City where brands show their wears to retailers from around the country.  Now consider this…take the top brands at OR, the top employees of those brands and put them into a three day conference and call it the OIA (Outdoors Industry Association) Rendezvous.

The Rendezvous is an opportunity for brands to get together to talk about the state of the industry and get updated on the latest and greatest trends.  According to the OIA web site, the conference theme / focus will be:

There’s no “business as usual” any more. In this information and technology age, all aspects of operations – retail, manufacturing, supply chains, and more – are changing so fast, it’s hard to keep up. Join us at Rendezvous to learn what you need to know to evolve and thrive – all while connecting with industry colleagues.

As the premier education conference for outdoor industry executives, Rendezvous 2012 will provide actionable insights that can be used in business as we explore:

  • Marketplace uncertainties
  • “No Rules Retail” business success models
  • New technologies and ways of thinking that are shifting business
  • How to stay in front of the ever-changing consumer, economy and world at large

As I prepare to attend the Rendezvous, I’m excited to hear from the fabulous speakers who will be in attendance.  I’m also excited to see old friends and make new ones.  As the event winds down on Friday, members of the conference join to take part in community service work in the surrounding areas.  Clean ups in the past have included everything from cleaning up parks and ball fields to river clean-ups.  This years services project once again will have members of the industry volunteers hundreds of hours to help the surrounding areas.

If you are in the industry and have not attended the Rendezvous, I would highly recommend putting the 2013 event on the schedule.  The information received from the speakers and opportunites to talk to others in the industry will be sure to benefit your brand.
