Outdoor Summer Market Trade Show Trends – Visible, Wearable Technology
We’re finally beginning to catch our breath from the frenzy of OutDoor Friedrichshafen and the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City that recently took place. Like the holidays, months are spent in preparation for these events, but they go by in the blink of an eye!
Both OutDoor and OR trade shows provide us with the great opportunity to meet and work with local and global brands, many of whom we are proud to call PORON Performers. Not only do we have our entire collection of PORON Materials on display for demonstration (just check out our Mondrian-like show floor made with panels of our different PORON foams), but we also showcase a variety of our customers’ products made with PORON Materials.
These cushioning and impact-protective products range from footwear and sports-specific apparel, to smart phone cases and saddle pads – yes even horses need protection! As a matter of fact, the U.S. Equestrian Team used the Toklat Matrix Saddle Pads with PORON® XRD® at the 2012 Olympics!
A key take away from OutDoor and OR is that functionality with great design continues to rule. Product developers showed continued interest for slim, flexible and wearable impact protection. They want to develop new designs that enhance ‘visible technology’, which has become a bit of a buzz word in the outdoor and sports apparel markets. Along that vein, our new PORON Shapes grabbed a lot of attention as a gateway for new protective apparel, footwear and insole designs.
Given that the focus of these shows is on spring/summer products, another interesting technology that drew attention was cool-tech fabrics, such as Coolcore and Columbia Sportswear’s Omni-Freeze ZERO. To protect against insect-bearing diseases, products with Insect Shield and No Fly Zone were also taking notice.
Any interesting trends from the OutDoor Show or Outdoor Retailer Summer Market you would like to share? We’d love to hear them!
