Rogers Opens XRD Impact Institute with StormForce Protective Apparel
Rogers is thrilled to unveil today our new XRD® Impact Institute. The Impact Institute a world class, in-house testing and design support center for our customer’s applications of XRD Extreme Impact Protection.
There’s not a one-size fits all solution for designing protective gear, and we are fully committed to partnering with our customers to find the proper solution that meets their requirements.
To illustrate the power of the Impact Institute, we want to share a customer example. Orbit Sports, a South African based sporting goods company who also designs, manfuacturers and retails StormForce Protective Apparel. Orbit Sports worked with our Impact Institute team to design a rugby pad unlike anything else on the market. It’s an incredible product, and we’re proud to share the story.
Rugby pads provide notoriously poor protection, and in response to a growing demand from players for better impact protection, Orbit set out to develop a revolutionary rugby shoulder pad system.
Orbit approached Rogers with their problem: how to develop a new shoulder pad that is light, flexible, specific to rugby, but provides an unprecedented level of impact protection? The Impact Institute team worked with Orbit to determine the best XRD Technology for their use. The XRD and Orbit teams worked together to design a one of a kind, XRD pad to wrap around and embrace the shoulder that offers a better fit, more comfort and ultimate protection in the needed impact zones.
Once an XRD formulation was selected, the Impact Institute team helped to develop and test initial prototypes. They didn’t quite fit with Orbit’s groundbreaking vision, so we went back to the drawing board. We reworked and redesigned the pads, and eventually submitted another round of test samples to Orbit.
Once both sides were happy with the design, we also tested the new Orbit pads against other leading rugby pads. These tests were used to confirm the effectiveness of the product and design, and provided Orbit with some powerful comparative data for marketing purposes as well.
With the full support of Rogers’ PR and marketing teams, Orbit showed initial product samples under their StormForce Protective Apparel line at the November 2014 World Rugby Expo in London. Early feedback from the samples has been outstanding: the pads are unlike any other on the market.
Moving into 2014, we’re excited to open up the XRD Impact Institute to all current and new brand partners, with the goal of pushing forward
