PORON® XRD™ Standard Shapes Provide Dependable, Wearable Impact ProtectionContact: Nancy Fendler
January 17, 2012; Woodstock, CT – As the demand for wearable impact- protective apparel continues to grow, Rogers Corporation, makers of PORON® XRD™ Extreme Impact Material, continually strives to provide product developers with innovative design solutions.
At the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market taking place this January 19-22 in Salt Lake City, Rogers will feature its PORON® XRD™ Extreme Impact Protection series of standard shapes, to include the M-Guard, X-Pad and B-Guard, all of which meet a variety of impact absorption levels and unique product design needs.
In multiple impact absorption tests, PORON XRD Material continually surpasses the competition for repeat impact absorption in a thinner, lighter-weight, contouring material. While soft and flexible to the touch, the material instantly forms a comfortable, protective shell on impact, providing reliable and long-lasting protection. In addition, all PORON® Cushioning has an exclusive license with Microban® antimicrobial product protection, which helps fight against bacteria, mold and mildew that can cause stains and odors.
PORON® XRD™ Extreme Impact Protection Standard Shapes
The PORON® XRD™ M-Guard is available in five sizes developed for a variety of uses including metatarsal guards for footwear. It is also appropriate for hip, elbow and knee pads. The contoured, feathered edges offer a sleek, flexible design that can seamlessly be incorporated into products for dependable impact protection without the bulk. The PORON® XRD™ M-Guard is the first flexible, contouring and impact-absorbent foam metatarsal guard, which helps safety footwear manufactures to pass ASTM F2413 standards.
The PORON® XRD™ X-Pad is suitable for multiple applications ranging from knee and elbow pads to shin and thigh protection. Its unique and flexible shape allows it to be easily trimmed, die cut and stitched to fit specific designs. It is made with a fabric backing and moisture-wicking air channels for added comfort. While extremely versatile, the PORON® XRD™ X-Pad is also durable, abrasion resistant and easy to care for.
The PORON® XRD™ B-Guard was developed for high-impact protection, and is particularly suited for apparel requiring back protection for activities where there is risk of a hard fall such as skiing and snowboarding. The PORON® XRD™ B-Guard helps to pass in-product testing of the EN 1621-2 impact absorbency test method for motorsports, and the EN 13158 for equestrian sports. Its flexible, grooved hinges allow for easy contouring, and maximum airflow. Additionally, it is lightweight, durable, and can be trimmed to fit men’s and women’s sizes.
“We are seeing more and more outdoor and wintersports manufacturers incorporating impact protection into their product lines,” said Dave Sherman, New Business Development Manager, Rogers Corporation. “Ski and snowboard apparel manufacturers are taking a close look at the protective gear used in the motorsports industry and adopting similar impact absorbing technology in gloves, back knee and hip protection.”
