XRD® Met Guard at Safety 2015

Safety 2015Earlier this month I attended the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) “Safety 2015” conference and expo.  If your interest or profession is in the realm of safety boots, gloves, harnesses, or even gas monitoring systems, this is an event not to miss.  Of course I attend this show looking at products made with the XRD® Met Guard as well as XRD Materials in other products.

I have attended many safety type shows in the past and I was presently surprised to see how much this industry has embraced the XRD® Met Guard.  For those unfamiliar with met guards, they are used to protect the top of foot from items crashing down on them.  These are used in industries such as mining and field workers.  When met guards first hit the market, they were similar to what an old ski boot outer tongue was…a hard but semi flexible plastic.  Over the years the ski boot has evolved and so has the work boot.HyTest display

Today, many manufacturers are moving away from the hard, heavy plastic to a XRD® Met Guard designed into the tongue of the boot.  This met guard is much more comfortable due to its flexibility, weight, breathability, and provides excellent protection which meets ASTM standards.  Brands such as HyTest, Justin Original Workboot, Oliver and Blundstone don’t just use the XRD met guard but, they promote it front and center in their marketing materials.

This might seem like a small change to some but, in the grand scheme of things, this is a huge evolution change.  You might even go as far as saying the XRD® Met Guard has revolutionize the work boot market.  I won’t get too ahead of ourselves and make that bold of a statement but in a few years, we’ll have to look back and let the industry make that claim for us.
